At The Strand Veterinarian, our commitment is to treat you, your animal companion, and the special bond between you with compassion, empathy and respect. We promise to love, care for and manage your animal through every stage of his or her life.
We are proud to offer a wide range of onsite diagnostic tests for fast and accurate results for disease diagnosis enabling optimal health outcomes for your pet.
Each patient has a perioperative care plan for a fear-free and pain-free experience, as well as a comprehensive anaesthetic and home care management plan.
As a holistic clinic, we are passionate about dental care. The mouth plays a very important role as dental disease can lead to problems with organs, such as the heart and kidneys.
As firm believers in multi-modal pain relief, we incorporate nutraceuticals, laser therapy and physiotherapy into your pet's treatment to help keep them moving freely, pain-free.
We have partnered with the Animal Emergency team at VSA to bring you an Urgent Care and Out of Hours Veterinary Service at our Parnell clinic.
Each of us is certified (or working on certification) as a 'Fear-Free Veterinary Professional', so we are armed with the latest tools to make your pet’s visit the best it can be.
We take the time to care, offering our preventative care expertise for cat and dog senior care and a collaborative referral approach for optimal pet care outcomes.
As veterinary professionals, with an abundance of aroha, we step into your shoes, treat you and your animal companion as our own and are there to support you, helping with decision making and preparation, for a dignified and timely end of life.
We love all cats, pedigree, or moggie, and can give you advice and tips on how to care for the individual needs of your cat.
We have separate consulting and waiting rooms for cats, complete with calming pheromone diffusers (Adaptil and Feliway) and we follow cat-friendly handling protocols - no scruffing or pegs around here!
Dogs exist in a plethora of shapes, sizes, colours, and coat types. This is what makes them so unique. Treating them as our own we know the benefits of individualised health care plans. The heartbeat at your feet will feel the aroha visiting our stress-free hospital.
From our free puppy consults to get them off to a great start, to our senior and palliative healthcare plans we look after you and your best friend for life.
Referrals
We work closely with several other trusted veterinary services, to ensure the very best care for your pet. We are very lucky in Auckland to have access to several veterinary specialist referral clinics, any of whom we would trust with our own pets. Some of the veterinary specialists we refer to include vet acupuncture, surgery, medicine, vet physiotherapy, vet dermatology and vet dentistry.
To afford 5-star quality veterinary care for you animal companion combine our Pet Project Wellness Plan with Pet Insurance for pet care on a set budget. For the best outcomes and optimal pet care for your pet we believe in a team approach. Working collaboratively to ensure continuity of care is what sets us apart from the rest.
Pet microchipping
A pet microchip is a permanent electronic form of identification for your pet which will assist their safe return to you if ever lost or missing. A microchip has a unique number and is about the size of a grain of rice. It can be read by a microchip scanner.
A one-off cost of $90 (which includes registration with NZCAR) will help ensure your pet has the best chance of being reunited with you. Book now or contact the team on 09 377 6667 to make sure your pets’ microchip is on the national registry and working. We check every patient of The Strand Vet at their annual health check and link this with your My Rover pet portal.
At The Strand Vet, we have a passion for preventative health, especially gut health – as we know that this is the foundation of it all. As we know how important nutrition is, we put a vast amount of time and effort into finding products that don’t just say they are good … but are good (most being New Zealand made which is even better)!
As there is so much to consider when choosing the right diet for your pet, we offer vet and veterinary nurse nutrition consultations to spend the time looking at all considerations to choose the best one to suit their needs. As this is often a journey (as it so often is with us too), we offer support and follow ups to ensure that it is working well for them.
In New Zealand we are lucky enough to receive free hospital care or ACC when we become ill or injured - unfortunately, this does not apply to our furry family members. Veterinary care can be expensive, and unexpected, so we recommend pet health insurance for peace of mind and avoiding unnecessary financial and emotional stress.
If you are unsure about which insurance company or plan is right for you, have a chat to one of our friendly veterinary nurses - they are happy to discuss the fine print with you, and even show you how to complete and submit a claim form.
Alongside insurance, which covers the ‘surprises’, we also offer our innovative and individualised Pet Project Pet Wellness packages, which when combined with insurance will achieve 5-star quality health care on an affordable set budget.
Ordering medication has never been easier. Ask Victor our friendly chatbot below to help you out, order online or email thegirls@thestrandvet.co.nz. Simply answer a few simple questions and one of our team will be in touch.
